Today I donated blood. It made me feel good, knowing that it'd go directly to someone else in the military that needed it. As I sat there squeezing the plastic grenade (to help blood flow faster) I prayed for whoever was going to receive it at some point and for the doctor, that he/she would know what to do for the patient.
As I got back to my desk, it really hit me that I'm going to deploy. I've been procrastinating and not really preparing to go, but now I am. After Thanksgiving I'll go get my smallpox vaccination. I really don't want it b/c it leaves a scar, and apparently my arm will feel like it's going to fall off after about 3 days. Plus I can't be around kids under 18 months. Then in December I have to get all my uniforms ready and start buying extra sets of shirts, socks etc.
Oh, so I decided to take Arabic. No it wasn't on my list, but I decided to take it since I'm deploying to a country that speaks Arabic and I've been told that I will have time to practice it with the locals over there. I'm waiting to start it though until I go back to my old office b/c there I won't have as much work to do. Or at least I don't think so. Speaking of my other office, in the past month I found out that they're losing 3 of the 13 people by the end of this year, then 2 others are deploying in the spring and then 3 are getting out of the military in the Fall. So my office will be down to slim pickings very quickly. It'll be very interesting to see what happens to my office. I think it's going to get swallowed up by another office though and that'd be a good thing...
On a past note, Joe and I went home last weekend to visit my parents. That was fun overall. Ben (lil bro) smashed his thumb in the wood splitter, but luckily it didn't break. He had basketball tryouts yesterday and made the first cut. I hope he makes the second, but he kinda doesn't want to make it b/c he wants to do drumline. Sports are way better:) Sara (sis) has started to date a really nice guy named Todd, and he's a Christian so that's a good thing.
And now I'm rambling so I think I'm going to stop:)
