Heart for Baghdad

Quote of the day: “You’re the right meat in a tiger cage.” Basically at work I’m the lowest ranking person, told to make a lot of changes, and struggling to keep my team happy, while making the bosses changes. So, one guy said it all with the meat statement! I’m getting pulled at from all angles, and little Lieutenants are the easiest to bring down! Work isn’t bad per say, but it is difficult to make changes that I don’t always agree with. I just had to share the quote b/c I thought it was quite fitting!

A great thing I did today was helping with the “Hearts for Baghdad” program. Overall it was quite rewarding, but I wish there was more I could do. The clinic was dim, small, damp, and when the families arrived it smelled of urine. Our job was to put together bags of clothes, hygiene products, school supplies, and candy to pass out to families. Once a family went through to see a doctor, the doctor wrote up a “script” of what the family could have of the donated supplies. It was heart breaking to be there and see the families with lots of crying children, and wanting to be able to give them more than we had. The children loved playing with all the soldiers, and we passed out candy to the kids while the parents waited for their appointments. The pictures show how little the clinic really has. A main need right now is medical/hygiene supplies – band aids, hand sanitizer, diapers, pain killer, household cleaners (non-aerosol countertop sprays), toothpaste (small travel sizes so more families can get them), toothbrushes (the cheap ones are fine), and any school supplies – paper, pencils, crayons, scissors… I realize that we can’t help them all, but if any of you would like to help you can send the stuff to me, or if it’s a large amount, contact me for the Chaplain’s address to mail the stuff directly. Thank you all!
